This is how I came up with the site name Ambient Issue.
From the start I knew I wanted to have a web site devoted to this and initially I wanted RainWave.com but it was already in use.
I then made up a list of criteria on what I was really trying to do with the project and the site. I quickly came to the conclusion that the word 'ambient' should be in the name since that was the main thing I was trying to promote.
I made a quick list of candidates:
The list was long. I then started to review some of my criteria:
I was really hung up on AmbientSeed for a long time since it was pretty descriptive. Enter the thesaurus. I looked at all kinds of spin-offs - AmbientGerm, AmbientUnion, AmbientStrain. When I hit upon Issue. I liked many meanings and inferences it offered.
An issue is an offspring, an issue describes the release of a magazine or subscription, etc. Dictionary.com had a lot of definitions that I liked - the word covered a lot of ground and ran the spectrum from:
What I a handy and versatile word I thought! I did a check and found that ambientissue was available and it was my new front runner.
Then I took a look at it on the screen and I found that my tendency was to read it as Ambien Tissue and I started to have misgivings, thinking of flimsy tissue paper. I tried it out on a friend and his take was a little different, he could see the tissue part as well but he interpreted it as flesh and cells so that was good enough for me.
So there you have it, a little bit of trivia. ~ DanD
